Schooling for Aspergers Children

It has been found over the years that,Doctors have now started looking at the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome, this has become one of the key considerations that psychiatrists now look at when faced with children with various behavioral symptoms. Being able to diagnose the early signs of Asperger’s is a major achievement which makes it possible for parents to make an early decision and be able to enroll their child in an Asperger’s School. These schools geared to have specifically structured school activities and lessons which will help in dealing with and coping mechanisms that are imperative when dealing with the symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome.

Doctors have found that girls with Asperger’s tend to be more introverted than boys suffering aspergers and may require more motivational activities which will help in encouraging them to take part in social events.Unfortunatly this has been ignored previously, Asperger’s syndrome is now one of the conditions which proffesionals check into when trying to diagnose children with different forms of behavioral problems, some of these may be the inability to join in and interact with social groups. It is important in knowing and understanding the early signs of Asperger’s which will help imensly in the early diagnosing of Asperger’s syndrome. If the diagnosis is found to be positive then parents need to look into the possibility of enrolling their child in a school that specialises in the teaching of children with Asperger’s.

Lets take a look at activities that an Asperger’s school would normally implement: Experiential learning,Since one of the symptoms of Asperge’r syndrome is the lack of interest to most things outside of their self and personal belonging experiential learning has been found to help the children appreciate his or her environment while also helping them to adapt and belong to interact in a group environment. The results should be to increase social awareness of the child. It is known that anti-social behaviour is one of the major signs of Asperger’s symptoms.

By increasing the childs social awareness by using group dynamics and similar events will have great value in developing the child’s team spirit and understanding of the concept of cooperation and unity to attain an objective. This also helps the child learn to adapt to social groups and activities, helping them with the skills needed to reach out beyond their own personal enviroment.Keeping to and Maintenance of routine activities is imperative,Teachers in Asperger’s schools also know that children with Asperger’s take to and are often afraid of new things and ideas that take them away from the established routine, Teachers will gradually change the routine to increase the child’s self-confidence and self-esteem. As the children are drawn to daily routines sometimes a list of things to do will be put together so that the child can refer to it and stay on track.

It is best to keep the list short at the begining, and to gradually increase it as the child becomes accustomed to it. The teachers will work within this premise to nurture the child. They will also implement an Individualized teaching learning process. As no two children will have the exact same symptoms, the Asperger’s School would treat them individually according to their needs. Children with Asperger’s have been found they learn better in a close one on one atmosphere rather than they would in a group enviroment. While teaching the social skills then the learning sessions will gradually begin to include one or two more students. The goal is for the child to achieve Independence their full potential, The Asperger’s School would also teach attaining independence and self-confidence.

You would normally find that this done through daily routine activities. As the child learns the routine the child will begin to do the tasks in the list without having to keep going back and reference the list. Allowing the student to boost their self confidence in themselves as they begin to see their own achievments. The acquisition of social skills acqiured at The Asperger’s School will go towards creating group interaction and communication among the students, allowing them to learn social skills and the significance of successful social interactions with other students. This goes a long way in them developing their interpersonal relationships with their peers and social groups around them. The building of self-esteem using all of these activities, then the Asperger’s School will be helping in building the self-esteem of the child. As the child becomes fully developed, then child will be able to slowly interact with the social mainstream. If this can be attained at an early age then the learned skills will put them in a good postion in adulthood.
